Guru Nanak Jayanti is on 19th November (Friday). The founder of Sikhism, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who sacrificed his whole life to make the world understand the true meaning of brotherhood and humanity, spent the last 18 years of his life in Kartarpur Sahib. Born in 1469 AD in the village of Talwandi, now known as Nankana Sahib, located near the Ravi river in the Punjab province of Pakistan, Guru Nanak contributed in every way to the betterment of humanity. Experts, who did research on the biography of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, tell that Guru Nanak Dev Ji did not feel like studying since childhood. From the very beginning, he was interested in spirituality and the realization of God.
One day his father Kalyanchand (Mehta Kalu) sent him to Panditji for studies, then Panditji asked him to write Om, but Guru Sahib wrote a numeral in front of Om, behind which he had to tell that God is one. Experts said, ‘Once some people asked Guru Nanak Dev Ji to tell us whether according to you Hindu is big or Muslim, Guru Sahib replied, “Awal Allah Noor Upaiya Kudrat Ke Sab Bande, Ek Noor Se Sab” Who created the world and who slowed it down? That is, all human beings are born of God, neither one who is called Hindu is acceptable in the eyes of God, nor one who is called Muslim. In the eyes of the Lord, only that person is high whose action is righteous, whose conduct is true. Guru Sahib also said that without karma the life of both is meaningless. Experts say that Guru Nanak Dev Ji had a lot of association with Kartarpur Sahib. In 1521 AD, Guru Nanak Dev Ji ended his religious travels and settled in Kartarpur, and remained there till the end of his life. During this, he gave three basic mantras to humanity to keep on chanting the name of God, ‘Kirat Karen’ means to earn a living by working sincerely and ‘Vand Chhako’ i.e. to share everything/material that you have, whose Today not only the Sikh community, but every religion in the world follows it.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji not only gave the teachings but also followed them himself. During the last 18 years of his life spent in Kartarpur Sahib, he used to plow the fields and was told that every human being should work hard in his life. Similarly, in his daily routine, he considered and remembered the Akal Purakh, the Supreme Soul at all times as his companion. In the third principle, he taught to share everything, be it money or food.
